When one drops, compare its current damage, level cap, visible bonus, and upgrade cost with the item you already use. A rare-looking label does not guarantee an upgrade.

How mutations enter progression

When a mutation appears, check four things before spending Cash.
Starting value: Compare the new item’s base damage or displayed primary stat with the weakest equipped member.
Level ceiling: A lower starting value can still win if its live maximum is higher. Neon can display a max-level bonus, which shows why the cap matters.
Visible secondary effect: Read any bonus text instead of guessing from color. A variant name alone does not prove attack speed, Cash, Luck, or drop chance.
Index value: A first-time variant may complete a Bubblet index entry or milestone even when it does not enter the team. Claim the index reward, then make the equipment decision separately.
Use Equip Best for a quick comparison, but inspect the result afterward. The automatic choice may favor the strongest current number and miss how much room a new mutation has to level.
Farming mutations without wasting a run
Farm in the highest zone where your team clears bubbles at a steady pace. Moving into a zone where every target takes too long reduces the number of chances you create. Improve bubble damage, spawn rate, and your equipped team before pushing the next shield.
World events deserve a separate check. If a Neon or other event is active, read the banner, note the timer, and focus your farming while the relevant targets are available. Do not assume the same variant remains in the normal pool after the event ends.
Keep a Cash reserve for leveling a useful drop. Save Gems for eggs or weapon openings unless the live mutation interface shows a Gem cost. The available gameplay does not prove a universal currency or crafting recipe for mutations.
